Naperville attorney named Lawyer of the Year

A veteran Naperville attorney with experience counseling Fortune 100 companies has been named the DuPage County Bar Association’s Lawyer of the Year.

Gerald Cassioppi, a partner at Nyberg & Cassioppi LLC, was honored last week with the annual award, which seeks to recognize general excellence in the field of law.

Cassioppi serves as general counsel to the bar association and has been instrumental in re-working its bylaws, said Colleen McLaughlin, the group’s outgoing president.

“Gerry’s experience with other nonprofits, organizations and his knowledge of the changing laws in this area was tremendously helpful throughout the year, particularly when we took on the task of completely revising our bylaws,” she said in a news release. “That project involved a huge commitment on Gerry’s part and our organization owes him a debt of gratitude for his commitment to get the job done.”

Licensed to practice law in 1982, Cassioppi has counseled the association since 2010 and was recently elected to its board of directors for the 2012-13 term. He also is a certified public accountant who has provided legal assistance to a wide range of businesses, from startups to Fortune 100 companies, officials said.
