McGuire goes deep twice in Benet sweep
Maeve McGuire homered to lead off both ends of a doubleheader, her area-leading 13th and 14th shots of the year, and No. 3 Benet swept Joliet Catholic 9-1 and 8-0 on Saturday in Lisle. Julianne Rurka also went deep in the second game for the Redwings (27-4, 12-2 East Suburban Catholic), who hold a one-game lead in the conference with four games to play.
Glenbard South 5, Richards 4:
Danielle Chitkowski homered for the second straight day, and the No. 9 Raiders (27-3) pounded out 10 hits against Northwestern-bound Richards ace Brianna LeBeau for their 12th straight win.
Glenbard North 2-6, Glenbard West 1-1:
Lilly Fecho (21-2) fired a three-hitter, striking out six, and Heather Sperlazzo and Stephanie Campos both drove in runs for the No. 1 Panthers (28-2) in the first game of a doubleheader. Lindsey Cherry (7-0) also tossed a three-hitter in Game 2 with 6 strikeouts. Sarah Petzold had 2 RBI for Glenbard North, who blew open the game with 5 runs in the fourth. Alex Caliva drove in a run.
Montini 9, Wheaton North 6:
Shaylee Lewis went 2-for-5 and scored 2 runs and Alex Dewey stole 2 bases and scored twice for Montini in the championship game of the Niles West Tournament. Earlier Montini (18-11) beat Niles West 6-1. Lewis was 2-for-3, scored 3 runs and stole 3 bases and Tori Shipbaugh was 2-for-3 with an RBI, run scored and steal.
