Hastert what we need in Washington

I had the pleasure of attending a "meet the candidates" forum at Sun City in Huntley Jan. 12. Of particular interest was the opportunity to meet the two Republicans running in the Feb. 2 primary for the 14th Congressional District, a seat currently held by Democrat Bill Foster.

While my wife and I had signed the nominating petition for Randy Hultgren, and I expected to support him, I really did not know much about either candidate.

I have to tell you, his opponent, Ethan Hastert, really impressed me. While Randy has been in the state Senate for 17 years, Ethan has not (maybe a good thing). Clearly, Ethan has a clearer vision and understanding of the issues and was not prone to just "speak the party line," which unfortunately Randy fell back on with some of the questions asked.

I was impressed with Hastert to the extent I will be going door to door in the neighborhood in support of his candidacy. He's what we need more of in Washington.
