America should pay heed to Greece
A wise person told me long ago that there are three kinds of people: those who simply never learn, those who learn from their mistakes, and then those really smart ones who have figured out how to learn from the mistakes of others.
As a nation, we have the opportunity to watch Greece at a crossroads in their history.
Greece has evolved into a service-based economy, they currently have a bloated public sector (one out of every four workers is employed by the state), an unquenchable thirst for foreign credit, generous retirement and entitlement programs, and significant influence by organized labor in the private sector.
Are they past the tipping point where enough voters who are reliant on the government will allow the country to continue on its current path for selfish reasons, or are there enough people left who understand fundamental economics and will support candidates promising to make the tough decisions needed to put their country back on track?
Does any of this sound familiar?
Americans should be paying attention. Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it.
