Mitch's gets new owners
GRAYSLAKE — The Landy family of Grayslake and the Sheahan family of Hainesville purchased Mitch's Chicago Style Grill, a family restaurant located in the Trading Post Shops at 116 S. Rt. 83 in Grayslake.
“We want to make sure we don't change any of the things that make Mitch's such a warm and fun family restaurant” said General Manager Scott Landy.
Chef Partner Dan Sheahan agreed, saying, “Mitch's has a lot of great food on the menu, and we want to make sure it stays just as good if not better than it is today.”
Mitch's was started six years ago by Laura and Mike Mitchell, her dad Joe Rodgers, and her mom, Sara Lee Rodgers-Schmidt and stepdad Lerv Schmidt.
Until they went to college, Laura's kids Megan, Cassie, Jami and Michael also were regular employees.
“While Dan's kids and my daughter are all still a bit young, I can definitely see them becoming part of the tradition in years to come” said Scott Landy.
Scott Landy is a graduate of the University of Chicago and has more than 15 years experience in marketing and new product development for companies, including P&G, Heinz, Kraft and S.C. Johnson. He has been a trustee for the Grayslake Area Public Library since 2002, and lives in Grayslake with his wife Kaila and daughter Ellianna.
Dan Sheahan is a professional chef, trained at the Culinary Institute of America, and has almost 30 years in the restaurant industry. Dan has a breadth of culinary experience that includes employee dining services, corporate chef, private chef, fine dining, and casual family dining. He is active in the children's ministry of Gurnee Community Church, and lives in Hainesville with his wife Holly, son Caden and daughter Lauren.
“We don't expect to make any major changes to the existing menu items; however, we are in the process of adding some new items to the menu including offering homemade soups and new sandwiches like the Monster Chicken Quesadilla and a Chicken Caesar Wrap,” said Dan Sheahan. “We are also just beginning to offer dinner entrees and desserts.”
Mitch's menu features Vienna Beef Chicago-dogs, a variety of sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. Kids get free soft serve ice cream at the end of their meal.
