Hoffman Estates stays hot
Hoffman Estates is rolling at the right time.
The Hawks (17-15) won their fifth straight game and for the eighth time in nine tries as Jimmy Ward threw a 5-hitter and Mark Roberts had 3 hits in Wednesday’s 2-1 Mid-Suburban League baseball crossover victory over Buffalo Grove (13-20).
Ward had 6 strikeouts and also foiled a game-tying squeeze bunt attempt in the seventh inning by getting the out at the plate. Roberts made a diving stop up the middle at second base and got the game-ending out at first and Riley Mugerditchian and Brian Cvitkovich had RBI.
Jake Fanella had an RBI double in the sixth and Jeremy Berger had 4 strikeouts and no walks in 6 innings for BG.
Schaumburg 6, Prospect 0: Schaumburg (19-13) won for the sixth time in seven tries as Patrick Bellinger had 7 strikeouts and allowed 2 hits and 1 walk in 4 innings. Senior Kedric Daly sparked a 6-run fourth with a two-out, 2-run single and Matt Brancato went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Palatine 11, Rolling Meadows 4: Nick Roy homered and doubled, Kurt Becker had 2 hits and 3 RBI, Scott Schneberger had 2 hits and 2 RBI and winner Eric Scheuermann had 2 hits and 9 strikeouts in 6 innings for Palatine (16-18). Matt Hendricks had 3 doubles and 3 RBI for Meadows (18-14).
Barrington 7, Wheeling 5: Frank Waliczek hit a tiebreaking homer in the bottom of the sixth for Barrington (18-14). Brendan Spillane homered for Wheeling (1-30).
