Vizza strikes out 16 in Naperville Central win

Naperville Central’s Kristina Vizza struck out 16 batters, two-hitting Glenbard East 1-0 on Wednesday in Lombard. The No. 8 Redhawks (17-4, 6-1 DuPage Valley Conference) scored the game’s only run in the fifth. Keegan Hayes doubled, advanced on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. Vizza (8-2) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the third, then retired 13 of the final 14 batters she faced.

Downers Grove North 1, York 0:

With Purdue’s coach in attendance, Trojans sophomore Dale Ryndak (8-1) struck out nine in five innings, she and Elaine Heflin outdueling York’s Tessa Kroll in Elmhurst. Heflin struck out all 6 batters she faced in two innings. No. 12 Downers Grove North (19-4, 6-0 West Suburban Silver) scored the game’s only run in the sixth. Carolyn Nojiri reached on an infield single, took second on an error, advanced on a bunt and scored on a Ryndak infield single. Kroll was the hard-luck loser for York (10-15, 4-3), allowing 2 hits while striking out three.

Carmel 13, Benet 3:

Host Carmel erupted for 8 runs in the bottom of the sixth, rallying past the No. 2 Redwings. Maeve McGuire hit her 10th homer and Julianne Rurka was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Benet (21-3).

Immaculate Conception 17, Aurora Central 0:

The host Knights clinched their third straight Suburban Christian Conference Gold championship, pounding out 20 hits. Jenn Clementi went 4-for-4 with a triple and 4 RBI, Jocelyn Sanchez 3-for-3 with a double, triple and 3 RBI and Jessica Conenna 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI for IC (20-6, 12-1), which scored 12 runs in the third.

Metea Valley 7, Neuqua Valley 6:

Anna Petersen homered, Alyssa Coletto drove in 3 runs and the Mustangs (10-8, 7-5 Upstate Eight Valley) scored 3 runs in the sixth inning and 2 in the seventh to clip No. 15 Neuqua. Brooke Meyer was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored for Neuqua (16-9, 9-3).

South Elgin 2, Waubonsie Valley 1:

Sam Bolin’s two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth propelled the Storm. Shannon Hohman (12-4) struck out eight and allowed just 5 hits for No. 13 Waubonsie (16-6, 8-3 Upstate Eight Valley). Winning pitcher Bolin also struck out four for South Elgin.

Hinsdale South 10, Downers Grove South 7:

Lauren Cairo went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and 4 RBI for the Hornets (17-7), who rolled out to a 10-0 lead after four innings and held on in Darien. Dana Capocci was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for Hinsdale South, who swept the season series with Downers Grove South. Jessica Andree had 4 hits for Downers Grove South.

Naperville North 7, Wheaton North 3:

Caitlyn Warren doubled twice and drove in 2 runs, and the Huskies (14-7, 6-2 DVC) scored 4 runs in the first and went on to win in Naperville. Kailee Budicin went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Naperville North. Katherine Meyer homered for Wheaton North.

Lisle 11-9, Plano 0-3:

Melanie Early struck out 11 batters, Grace Riley was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Kelly Urban went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI in a game continued from Tuesday’s suspended contest. In the regularly scheduled game, Lisle (19-3, 9-3 Interstate Eight Conference) blew things open with a 6-run third. Summer Stitt was 3-for-3 and scored 3 runs.

Glenbard South 11, Illiana Christian 2:

Danielle Chitkowski went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI, and little sister Stephanie Chitkowski (8-2) struck out 10 for the No. 8 Raiders (19-3, 8-0 Metro Suburban Conference) in Lansing.

Willowbrook 10, Addison Trail 0:

Alyssa Ressinger, Olivia Domin and Darian Pelsor all homered for the Warriors.

WW South 13, West Aurora 2:

Rayanna Becker went 3-for-4 and Hannah Heating doubled for the Tigers (14-13, 5-3 DVC).

Glenbard West 6, Hinsdale Central 3:

Kelly Borneman had 3 doubles and an RBI and Meghan Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI for the Hilltoppers (13-9, 6-1 West Suburban Silver).

Mt. Assisi 8, Timothy Christian 3:

Marisa Voss had 2 hits, including a double, and 2 RBI for the Trojans (7-16).
