Lake Zurich was pulling rabbits out of its hat on Saturday in a 4-1 victory at Buffalo Grove.

“There was magic in the dugout,” Lake Zurich coach Gary Simon said. “It was our best overall team win of the season.”

The Bears, who improve to 16-9, got some clutch pitching out of senior Connor Clancy, who entered in relief in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and no outs and managed to deny the Bison a score, first getting a strikeout and then a double play.

Collin Roto had the hit of the game in the third when he ripped a two-out single that scored 2 runs.

And defensively, Tanner Kiser came up with two crucial diving catches at first base for putouts.

James DeGeorge finished with a team-leading 3 hits for the Bears while Kiser and Joey Pizzalato each had 2 hits.

Warren 2, Fremd 1: Alex Letto went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Warren to victory. Winning pitcher Adam Ruess recorded 5 strikeouts.

Antioch 13, Zion-Benton 3:Emery Paramski and Jerry LaSaint each had 2 hits and an RBI for Antioch (15-9). LaSaint was also the winning pitcher, rolling up 8 strikeouts over five innings.

Carmel sweeps Marist: Alex Young had a big day for the Corsairs, who got two wins over Marist, 4-0 and 5-0.

In the first game, Young went 2-for-3 at the plate. Meanwhile, pitcher Matt Ryan got 6 strikeouts over seven innings.

In the second game, Young took the mound and fanned 10 Marist batters in just five innings. He also did not allow a walk.

Tyler Murphy, Quinten Sefcik and Nico Caracciolo each had 2 hits. Murphy had a triple and Sefcik and Caracciolo each had doubles.
