3 Peoria High School basketball champions arrested in student beating

PEORIA — Three members of the state champion Peoria High School basketball team have been arrested on suspicion of beating a fellow student.

The Journal Star in Peoria reports they were arrested Thursday at the high school just hours after two of them had signed to play with a Missouri junior college.

They were booked on charges of aggravated battery and mob action.

They are accused of attacking another student in front of his home on April 26. The beating victim told police he believed he was attacked because one of the men thought he was interested in the same girl.

According to a police report, the three took part in an attack in which the student was pushed to the ground and then kicked and punched.
