Rolling Meadows post office closes
After nearly 50 years, the Rolling Meadows post office at 3266 Kirchoff Road closed for good on Friday afternoon due to a leasing dispute with the shopping center owner. Post office employees said the final afternoon was quiet and sad a as a few regular customers came in to say goodbye.
The closing was announced in April and since then more than 100 residents and small businesses in town have written letters hoping to change the decision. They were unsuccessful.
On Friday, post office employees said they’ve heard from many in the community who hope a new post office will open in a different Rolling Meadows location, though there’s no sign that will happen.
Post office box customers at the Rolling Meadows branch must change their addresses to street delivery or to a post office box at a neighboring post office. A change of address form is available online at usps.com or from local post offices.
Post office employees said there were still many full post office boxes Friday afternoon. Mail from those post office boxes without a forwarding address will be available at the Arlington Heights Post Office for pickup in general delivery until the expiration of the current post office box rental agreement.
