White Sox scouting report

White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox at U.S. Cellular Field

TV: Channel 9 today; Channel 26 Friday; Comcast SportsNet Saturday and Sunday

Radio: WSCR 670-AM

Pitching matchups: The White Sox' Philip Humber (1-0) vs. Felix Doubront (0-0) today at 7:10 p.m.; John Danks (2-2) vs. Daniel Bard (0-2) Friday at 7:10 p.m.; Jake Peavy (3-0) vs. Jon Lester (0-2) Saturday at 6:10 p.m.; Gavin Floyd (1-3) vs. Josh Beckett (2-2) Sunday at 1:10 p.m.

At a glance: It will be interesting to see how the White Sox respond after Wednesday's tough 14-inning loss at Oakland. Hector Santiago had another rough outing and took the loss. If manager Robin Ventura is going to make a change at closer, Addison Reed is the likely option. Reed has made nine straight scoreless appearances to start the season. Humber should be well received in his first start since Saturday's perfect game at Seattle. The White Sox were 4-2 against the Red Sox last season. They have won 14 of their last 18 vs. Boston. In addition to injuries to two key players, Jacoby Ellsbury (shoulder) and Carl Crawford (wrist), poor pitching has been a big problem for the Red Sox, who reside in the AL East cellar. Marlon Byrd was 3-for-9 in his first two games with the Red Sox after being acquired in a trade from the Cubs.
