Probation, jail for West Dundee teen who burglarized friend’s house
A West Dundee teen pleaded guilty to burglarizing the Palatine home of a friend last June while the friend and his family were on vacation.
In exchange for pleading guilty to residential burglary, Jonathan Hansen, 18, was sentenced Monday to two years probation and ordered to pay $585 in fines. He was also sentenced to 202 days in jail, time considered served.
Authorities say Hansen sent his friend what seemed to be a joking text message saying “I’m going to break into your house, ha,” then actually did break into the family’s Palatine home. He ate some of their food, logged into his friend’s Facebook account, drove the family car and took about $40 worth of coins, prosecutors said.
