Naperville Ys celebrating Healthy Kids Day

Naperville’s two YMCAs will join more than 1,900 other Ys across the country to celebrate Healthy Kids Day with a variety of activities.

The event on Saturday, April 28, is designed to kick-start physical activity and learning throughout the summer, a critical time for out-of-school kids.

Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative of the Y, is filled with active play and educational activities that will help parents improve their kids’ lifestyles. Research shows that without access to activities that stimulate the mind and body, kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically over the summer months.

“At the YMCA, we know when the school year ends, many kids lose exposure to activities that keep them moving and learning. Healthy Kids Day will help parents begin thinking early about what their kids need to stay physically and intellectually active in the summer,” said Judy Ellertson, executive director of the Fry Family YMCA.

“Summer is just around the corner and is an ideal time for kids to get out and grow so they are healthier and sharper when the next school year begins.”

Healthy Kids Day activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fry Family YMCA, 2120 W. 95th St., and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kroehler Family YMCA, 34 S. Washington St.

Activities will include interactive kids fitness demonstrations; an inflatable bounce house and slides; and information on safety, healthy eating and physical activity.
