Judson graduate returns for concert, promote new album
Submitted by Judson University
Judson alumna and musician Liz Bowater will return to her alma mater on Tuesday, April 10, for a concert to celebrate the release of her latest album, “Since I Left Home.” The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Marjorie Thulin Performance Hall of the Thompson Center on Judson University's campus, 1151 N. State St., Elgin.
Bowater was a 2004 graduate of Judson's Worship Arts program. A native of Chicago, Bowater relocated to Cincinnati in the summer of 2005 and is now supported by the songwriters' cooperative Blue Jordan Records.
“Since I Left Home” has been in the works for a few years, but is now being released after Bowater received funds through a grant from Rivertown Music Club and a successful fundraising campaign on Kickstarter.com. The album was recorded live in The Monastery Studio in Walnut Hills, Ohio, with famed local musician and music producer Ric Hordinski, along with Daniel Joseph Dorff (piano and drums), and fellow Blue Jordan Records artists Brandon Dawson (guitar, vocals) and Mike Helm (bass guitar.)
“I didn't set out to make anything fancy,” says Bowater. “The songs didn't really call for it. I wanted to allow myself the freedom for what I appreciate in other artists — honesty in not only the content, but also the presentation of the music.”
At the April 10 concert, Bowater will be joined by fellow 2004 Judson alumni Greg and Kim Wheaton of DeKalb. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for Judson community members with a valid Judson ID. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at brownpapertickets.com/event/230658/.
