Minor fire damages Palatine townhouse
Crews from three departments responded to a Palatine townhouse fire as fire officials feared a laundry room blaze would spread to nearby units in Monday afternoon’s high winds.
The fire started in a dryer in a home on the 2100 block of North Oak Brook Circle, and firefighters responded at 2:20 p.m.
Firefighters had the fire under control in less than five minutes and were able to contain the flames to the second floor, where the laundry room was located.
One person was home during the fire but left safely after hearing the smoke detectors, according to the fire department.
Fire officials requested help from neighboring departments after an early report of fire spreading in the multifamily structure due to high winds. An Arlington Heights engine and Long Grove Fire District ambulance responded.
No one was injured in the fire, and the five occupants were able to return, officials said.
Damage to the structure and contents was estimated at $3,000.
