No opening rush for Fort Wayne zoo despite warmth
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — This spring’s early warmth doesn’t mean an earlier opening for the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo.
While many of the zoo’s animals have been out basking in the sun, zoo education director Cheryl Piropato says much work needs to be done ahead of its April 21 opening date.
She tells The Journal Gazette that concession stands must be rebuilt, the zoo train’s engine replaced and the sea lion tank filled up with water.
She says the zoo staff wants to have everything ready to go before opening up the gates for visitors.
