Klopas, Anibaba suspended for Friday’s match

Chicago Fire coach Frank Klopas and central defender Jalil Anibaba will be suspended for Friday’s MLS match at Chivas USA for their actions at the end of Saturday night’s 2-1 loss against Seattle Sounders FC.

According to the referee’s report to the league, Anibaba was red-carded for his tackle in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time, just before the referee blew the final whistle. Klopas also was dismissed. A scuffle broke out on the field involving players from both teams after the tackle, and when the field was cleared, Klopas could be seen being held back by the fourth official and pointing an angry finger at referee Michael Kennedy.

Assistant coaches Mike Matkovich and Leo Percovich will lead the Fire on Friday in Klopas’ absence.

First-round draft pick Austin Berry could see his first MLS action alongside former German international Arne Friedrich in place of Anibaba.
