East Dundee church to host nativity walk

Submitted by Immanuel Lutheran Church

Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Dundee will host its Nativity Walk from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. Coinciding with the Dickens in Dundee weekend, the church will be open to the public for viewing dozens and dozens of nativity sets owned by congregation members. The event is free.

“Stranger in the Manger” is this year’s theme as Linda Thompson, coordinator, tries to show the public the true meaning of Christmas using the beloved Nativity scenes of congregation members.

“Each nativity set is special,” says Thompson. “We have sets that are handcrafted, collector’s items, miniatures, and musical, to name a few. It’s a nice way to get your heart set for the busy Christmas season.”

The Nativity Walk is held in the church’s Luther Hall, adjacent to the sanctuary. This year, you may also enter the sanctuary to view the decorated church, its Italian Fontanini nativity, as well as the handmade ornaments on its sanctuary tree, called Chrismonds. Each ornament is symbolic, proclaiming Jesus Christ as Savior, which is the reason we celebrate the season. A guide to the ornaments will be provided.

Parking is in the back of the church, located at the corner of Route 72 and Van Buren Street. For details, call Linda Thompson at (847) 836-6710.
