One man injured after car hits house in early morning Round Lake Beach crash
A 60-year-old man was injured after he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake at a Round Lake Beach intersection and hit a house early Wednesday morning.
Dale Florik, of Round Lake Beach, was traveling north on Turnbull Lane and approaching the stop sign at the corner of Golfview when the accident occurred, said Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Rich Chiarello.
Florik’s white vehicle lurched forward after he hit the gas, and slammed into the passenger-side door of another car that was passing through the intersection while heading east on Golfview.
The two vehicles went up onto the lawn in the corner lot of the 800 block of Glenview, where they separated, Chiarello said.
Florik’s vehicle continued moving forward into some bushes, then into the side of the house, where it finally stopped, Chiarello said.
The accident caused minimal damage to the house, officials said.
Florik, who was treated at the crash scene for minor injuries, was cited for disobeying a stop sign, Chiarello said. His next court date is unknown at this time.
