• The Rockford Dance Company is calling for scripts from individuals or groups willing to write (and possibly perform) their own skits for “The Rockford Follies,” a fundraiser at the Coronado Theatre in February 2010. • The Palatine Children's Chorus has auditions on Thursday, Jan. 6, and on Wednesday, Jan. 12, for children from the Northwest suburbs who will be at least 8 years old on Monday, Jan. 10. After a short audition, singers can be placed in either the Treble Choir (Wednesday rehearsals) or the Intermezzo Choir (Monday rehearsals) based on age and musical experience. • Fox Valley Repertory (formerly Noble Fool Theatricals) is accepting new play submissions for the Fox Valley Area's inaugural Summer Arts Festival to take place annually at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, and throughout the city of St. Charles between Thursday and Sunday, July 14-31. In particular, three playwrights are sought to work one-on-one with local scientists around the theme of “Collider 2011: New Play Project.” Playwrights are also invited to submit 10-minute new plays to be considered for the Big Bang 10 Minute Play Fest, a program to also take place during the Summer Arts Festival. • Amateur photographers of all ages are invited to enter the annual “Cantigny in Focus” photo contest. • Liberty Town Productions invites very young-looking high school-aged and younger singer/dancer/actresses to audition for the role of the super-talented child actress in the off-Broadway comedy “Ruthless! • The Rockford Writers' Guild welcomes entries for the 7th annual “Ides of March Poetry & Prose Contest.” Eclectic poetry up to 50 lines or prose up to 1,300 words should express fresh insights into the human condition (sexist, pornographic or supremacist content will not be considered). The deadline to enter is March 15. The entry fee is $5 for up to three poems entered and/or $5 for each single prose entry. All proceeds from the entry fee will be distributed among the winners. • The Curt Teich Postcard Archives at the Lake County Discovery Museum seeks entries for its ninth biennial Postcard Art Competition and Exhibition (PACE).
