When Carson Tanner, an Eagle Scout candidate with Boy Scout Troop 32 in West Dundee, decided to start his Eagle Scout Service Project, he wanted to do something that would benefit the local area.

He decided to clean up and update Saddle Club Park in Sleepy Hollow, a park he has visited many times.

On Sept. 26, Carson led a group of 19 Scouts, leaders, volunteers and parents in updating the park. The project consisted of placing a wooden access bridge over a gully from the street to the park, installing a wooden bench and putting in a new bicycle rack since the park did not have one.

In addition, the playground gravel was completely weeded and raked, dead tree branches were cut, swings were fixed, grass was re-seeded and graffiti was removed.

The week before, Carson and a group of Scouts built the bridge, bench and bicycle rack from material that was donated. Carson designed the bridge and obtained plans for the bench and bicycle rack from the Internet.

Fittingly, as the group was leaving, three young girls arrived at the park and promptly placed their bicycles in the new rack.

Troop 32 has been serving East and West Dundee, Sleepy Hollow and the surrounding area for almost 70 years.
