Public bodies want too much money

In this brutal Lake County economy, it is outrageous that many Lake County public organizations are in the process of requesting more property tax from the residents.

Many people are losing their homes, are out of work or do not have enough income to decently provide daily necessities, including food, for their families.

As a subscriber to the Daily Herald, I see almost every day “Notice of Hearings” for a property tax increase, especially for schools. An example is that the Big Hollow School District No. 38 is asking for $17,576,337, a 29.44 percent increase for 2010, which is essentially $4 million more than 2009. Big Hollow School District is always requesting huge tax increases, and it is disgusting.

According to what I hear, the Lake County residential property taxes are the highest in the Midwest, and yet they want more and more property taxes. What is needed right now is a huge back in taxes to put residents on a decent financial footing
