Why would residents reject home rule?

I just don’t understand the reasoning of the citizens of Prospect Heights who voted against Home Rule.

They are afraid of tax hikes, but actually, by freeing up almost $1.5 million from hotel tax revenue and many thousands more coming in each year from that source we could have wound up with a tax decrease instead.

Whatever happened to common sense?
