Woman injured, dog killed by truck in Naperville
A Naperville woman sustained serious injuries and her dog was killed after both were hit by a truck on Chicago Avenue in Naperville Sunday evening.
Naperville police officials said Ashley Wehr, 24, of Naperville, had run into the street while chasing after her dog on the 1400 block of East Chicago Avenue when she was struck at 8:18 p.m. by a westbound 2008 Buick Enclave.
The dog was also struck by the truck, officials said, and did not survive.
Wehr was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
Police said Wehr was walking with her dog on the north side of Chicago Avenue when the dog darted into the roadway. Wehr was hit when she tried to retrieve the dog.
The 86-year-old driver of the truck was not charged.
Members of the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit were investigating the accident, officials said.
