Portugal. The Man thanks Chicago police with doughnuts

The band Portugal. The Man kept its word by sending Chicago detectives three dozen doughnuts as thanks for recovering musical instruments and equipment that was stolen after the band’s appearance at the Lollapalooza music festival.

Bake For Me! Bakery & Café owner Joe Kapacinskas says detectives at the Homan Square police station were treated to chocolate, vanilla and glazed doughnuts. The band also had strawberry croissants and Danishes delivered Wednesday morning.

A mechanic was accused Tuesday of buying band equipment, including vintage guitars and amps, keyboards, effects pedals, drums and microphones, at a flea market on Chicago’s South Side. Juan Ocampo was charged with one count of felony theft and was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Portugal. The Man is scheduled to return to Chicago on Oct. 15
