Marmion Academy hosts traveling art exhibition

Submitted by Marmion Academy

Marmion Academy in Aurora is hosting the traveling art exhibition “Horse Taming Mind Training Universal Balance” by Siew Lian Lim. The exhibit will close with a reception from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, with an artist talk at 4 p.m.

The exhibit, which is open to the public, will be held in the Dr. Scholl’s Exhibit Mezzanine at Marmion Academy, 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For details, call Exhibit Director Lisa Dzuriscko at (630) 897-6936, ext. 219, or email ldzuriscko@marmion.org.

The exhibit features the stationary silent shadow puppet show that moves, breathes and speaks. A series of shadow sculptures will be arranged in a narrative that reflects the artist’s experience of the different stages of mind training.

The sculptures are made of repurposed material, including food wrappers collected in the U.S. and Asia, aluminum cans, plastic containers, file folders and more, which are then sewn together to create the figures.

The puppets speak through their materials, reminding viewers of what they consume and waste.
