Move toward cheaper electricity

Gurnee village board trustees have approved two ordinances allowing it to continue an effort to bring cheaper electricity to residents and small businesses. Last month, Gurnee voters overwhelmingly approved an advisory referendum question that asked if the village should pursue a power deal that would be less expensive than ComEd’s rates. Gurnee will combine with several other suburbs in seeking competitive pricing bids for electricity under a single contract. After a deal is struck, the residents and small businesses would have to opt out of it if they wish to remain with ComEd or obtain service from another power provider. The village board passed the ordinances last week.
