Improv teen actors to perform ‘The Miracle Worker’
“The Miracle Worker,” an Improv Playhouse Acting Conservatory for Teens production, is set for April 13-15.
Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. All tickets cost $5.
Immortalized onstage and screen by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, the cast of 15 teen actors from the North Shore and north Lake County tells the story of Annie Sullivan (Nina Wilson of Grayslake) and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller (Kotryna Muzik of Mundelein).
Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled, almost subhuman and treated by her family as such.
Only Annie realizes there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence.
With scenes of intense physical and emotional dynamism, Annie’s success with Helen finally comes with the utterance of a single word.
Directed by Erin Neal (Chicago), performances will be at the Improv Playhouse theater, 735 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. Nora Broz (Grayslake) is the assistant director.
