Woman rescued from burning West Lafayette townhome

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Firefighters rescued a woman from a third-floor bedroom window as flames and smoke poured from a burning townhome building in West Lafayette.

The fire Monday at the townhome complex a few miles from the Purdue University campus destroyed or badly damaged several units.

Wabash Township Fire Chief Mike Francis tells WLFI-TV that the flames had spread to all three floors of the townhome by the time firefighters arrived. The rescued woman was unharmed and the only person there when the fire broke out.

The fire destroyed a car parked outside and wind gusts spread the flames to a neighboring cornfield, which crews soon extinguished.

Fire department spokesman Kevin McCombs tells Journal & Courier that the fire’s cause wasn’t immediately known.
