Fort Wayne chief says officer right in shooting
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Fort Wayne police chief says an officer was justified in shooting a 43-year-old man who was trying to take the officer’s stun gun from him.
Police say the man was fleeing early Saturday from officers in a car that was reported stolen when he ran into a house. Chief Rusty York tells The Journal Gazette that two officers followed the man and he continued to resist them even after being shocked by a stun gun.
York says the man was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but York said Sunday that his wound wasn’t considered life-threatening.
Heidi Castaneda says that her husband Vincent Castaneda owned the car and was moving it from her sister’s house when police began chasing him.
