Divided government is only solution
The dictionary defines hypocrisy as “feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not.” Well that would certainly describe many congressional Republicans who for years have been attacking the president for adding to the debt, huge budget deficits and not dealing with the approaching insolvency of Social Security and Medicare.
Well, guess what? These so-called fiscally conservative Republicans have agreed to extend the fiscally insane FICA tax cut for another 10 months. If this was not bad enough, Republicans, despite their whining about the size of the debt, will again go along with raising the debt limit.
If this an indication of how fiscally conservative Republicans will address the problems of wasteful spending, debt and deficits when they take control of the Congress, the American people can look forward to more debt, ongoing massive budget deficits and little if anything being done to reform Social Security and Medicare. With a majority in the House, Republicans could have blocked the extension of the FICA tax cut, but instead they went along with the Democrats. I guess Republicans prefer talking about the debt and deficit to actually doing anything to reduce our massive debt.
Newly elected Congressional members of the Tea Party were supposed to influence Republicans to finally demonstrate some fiscal discipline while reducing the size of government; instead it appears that the Republican establishment in Washington has changed the Tea Party.
The only hope for the country is divided government, with Republicans controlling the Congress and the president being re-elected.
