Recital to benefit EYSO scholarships
The second annual Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra faculty benefit recital will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6 in the Spartan Auditorium in the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin.
This faculty recital aims to raise donations for EYSO Scholarship Fund.
The concert is free but tickets do need to be reserved in advance at tickets.elgin.edu. Donations to benefit the EYSO scholarship fund will be accepted at the concert.
For the second time in its 37-year history, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra faculty will take to the stage to perform together, along with special guests.
Last season’s debut recital was a big hit and this year’s is sure to be the same. Audience members will enjoy an hour of exceptional music by professional musicians with truly impressive resumes. This is a rare opportunity to hear local world-class musicians play together.

The 2012-13 “Invention” Season is a yearlong study of how music relates to innovation, invention, and the art of seeing things differently. The three season concerts (“Inspiration,” “Blueprint,” “Critical Mass(es)”) explore the connection between being inspired and the ability to turn that inspiration into a working idea.
The EYSO regular season includes nine concert performances at The Blizzard Theatre on the main campus of ECC. In addition, the Chamber Music Institute performs each semester, the Brass Choir performs every spring, and the EYSO honors chamber ensembles — the Maud Powell String Quartet, the Sterling Brass Quintet, and the Hanson String Quartet perform throughout the year.
The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, an In-Residence Ensemble in the Arts Center at Elgin Community College, is home to five orchestras and a brass choir with 350 students from over 55 communities. Founded in 1976, the mission of the EYSO is to create a community of young musicians, enriching their lives and the lives of their families, schools, communities and beyond, through the study and performance of excellent music. Musicians work and study under Artistic Director Randal Swiggum who is celebrating his 15th year with the organization this season. The EYSO is partially supported by grants from the EFS Foundation, the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission, the Grand Victoria Foundation, the Illinois Arts Council (a state agency), and the Palmer Foundation. The 2012-13 EYSO season sponsor is USPlate Glass Insurance Company.
