Sheyman has passion, progressive values

After attending the 10th Dems Congressional candidate forum on Feb. 25, I am more convinced than ever that Ilya Sheyman is the candidate to support.

Competing against Schneider, Bavda and Tree, Ilya was the clearest, and most detailed in articulating his goals and how to reach them. But all of the candidates appear to support similar goals — so why vote for Ilya? In a word — electability.

Yes, he is young, but this “youngster” has put together a huge grass roots campaign; he has raised enough money from small donors to fund three campaign offices and TV commercials. He speaks with a clear progressive voice for rebuilding the middle class — and he has the background to prove that he means what he says.

And he is an awesome debater. His closing summary had the crowd on their feet. Mr. Schneider says he is progressive, but has supported several Republican candidates, especially Mark Kirk. He says he did so because of their views on Israel. The Democrats are also ardent supporters of Israel, so I’m not sure it’s worth the nuanced difference to deal with Republican policies like “drill, baby, drill,” religion as science, union bashing, etc.

With Mr. Schneider, I’m not sure if we’re getting a Democrat or moderate Republican. Ilya Sheyman provides the contrast with Mr. Dold, and has the organization, enthusiasm, intelligence, and debating skills to win this election.
