No ‘King” title for South Elgin’s Maestranzi

South Elgin junior Jake Maestranzi saw his run to the top of the mountain come to an end a bit short Saturday afternoon.

Maestranzi, the Class 4A 3-Point Showdown champion, made 7 of 15, one short of becoming King of the Hill during the finals of the competition at the IHSA state tournament in Peoria.

Gordon Tech’s David Andrews, Freeport Aquin’s Patrick Schmelzle and Cahokia’s Keenan Minor each made 8 in the televised finals, then Minor made 8 in the three-player shootout to claim the King of the Hill title.
