Salt-N-Pepa, Steve Miller Band to headline Taste of Chicago
Musical styles ranging from 1980s rappers Salt-N-Pepa to "Hannah Montana" co-star Emily Osment are represented in the something-for-everyone entertainment lineup at this year's Taste of Chicago festival.
The free concerts will take place June 25 through July 4 at the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park.
In addition to Salt-N-Pepa and Osment, other headliners include pop crooner Rob Thomas, R&B star Trey Songsz, oldies favorite The Steve Miller Band, singer/songwriter Mat Kearney, rappers Bel Biv Devoe, Latin-influenced Los Lonely Boys and Los Lobos, and alt rocker Gavin Rossdale (aka Mr. Gwen Stefani).
A Broadway in Chicago concert is set for 6 p.m. Monday, June 28, featuring cast members of the new hit play "Billy Elliot," as well as singers/actors from "Shrek," "Wicked" and others.
The best may be yet to come, as the triple bill lineup for Sunday, July 4, has not yet been announced.
Chicago's traditional July 3 fireworks display, which typically draws 1 million people to the lakefront, has been canceled this year. Instead, the city will do three smaller, shorter fireworks displays along the lakefront, which city officials said will significantly reduce crowd-control and production costs.
