Navy doctor helps athletes here, too
Gregory E. Crovetti may be a new doctor at MidAmerica Orthopaedic Clinic in Libertyville, but he's served more than patients in the Lake County area. As a commander in the U.S. Navy, he has worked as a physician in an emergency room and set up the first sports clinic at Camp Beuring in Kuwait to help soldiers with medical issues.
Crovetti remained at the base in Kuwait from January to October 2005, and wasn't put in harm's way, so he could apply his medical expertise to keeping the soldiers fit. He worked closely with those who had injuries or pain related to training or riding combat vehicles. He made evaluations, diagnosed problems and did treatment or surgery, he said.
“We operated like a normal hospital triage,” Crovetti said. “We would treat them or do surgery.”
He's also participated in humanitarian missions, such as one in South America. After Kuwait, Crovetti returned to the states. He's now a Navy reservist and the officer in charge of a medical unit at Great Lakes Naval Station.
He's currently moving with his wife and two children from Elmwood Park to Green Oaks for his job at MidAmerica Orthopaedic Clinic, he said.
Crovetti, who treats musculoskeletal problems and other medical conditions, said he's athletic himself and enjoyed wrestling while in school. That's why he steered his medical career toward sports injuries, low back, neck, work-related injuries, overuse injuries and pain syndromes. He attended Loyola University School of Medicine in Maywood, completed an internship in surgery at Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and completed his residency in internal medicine at West Suburban/Loyola University Hospital. His fellowship was in sports medicine at the University of Kentucky. He is board-certified in internal medicine and has specialty board-certification in sports medicine.
Also, Crovetti is the team doctor for Lake Forest High School. And he's been a physician for many athletic events, such as state wrestling and basketball tournaments, collegiate sporting events, national boxing tournaments, world karate championships, pro hockey teams and a professional ballet company in Lexington, Ken. He has been part of the medical teams for the Eco Challenge Race and the Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii.
Doing such work is important, he said.
“I felt like I wanted to do more for our country,” he said.
He's filling office space
Ali Setork, founder and owner of Naperville-based DynaCom Management Inc., continues to sign up new tenants. ENFOS Inc. an environmental business management solutions firm, and 1st Farm Credit Services, an agricultural lender, have taken new, larger office spaces on Naperville's north end. ENFOS moved into a building at 1952 Mcdowell Road, while 1st Farm moved into 1560 Wall Street. Both buildings are managed by Setork's Dynacom and are just two of the six office buildings in the DynaCom portfolio.
She supports culinary students
Wilmette resident Emily Williams Knight, president of Kendall College, was one of the major champions of the “Sip and Spit” bill, which passed the Illinois Senate on May 29. It would allow culinary students 18 and older to legally taste alcohol as part of their training in the classroom, as long as they are supervised and spit the drink out after tasting. She testified in the state Senate and House on how it would provide Illinois culinary students with a competitive edge, along with knowledge on how to pair food with alcohol and prepare various new recipes. The governor could sign it into law this summer.
Realtors win awards
Broker/owner Basel Tarabein, a Kildeer resident, and sales associate Cindy Eich, a Palatine resident, both of RE/MAX At Home in Rolling Meadows earned awards at the 35th annual RE/MAX awards ceremony. Eich was honored with the Humanitarian Award, and Tarabein earned the Alpha Tester Award. Eich learned that more than 150 students in Township High School District 211, which serves Palatine and Schaumburg townships, had been identified as homeless. She wanted to help them and encouraged other Realtors to join her efforts to end student homelessness. Her group, Realtors Against Homelessness, raised $20,000 for the cause in 2011, and the organization plans to continue its efforts. In 2011, Tarabein carefully reviewed and tested a new and proprietary real estate technology product developed by RE/MAX Northern Illinois, providing feedback that ensured a successful launch.

Elmhurst resident Kristin Walker is the new chief financial officer and Wheeling resident Jeanne Heid-Grubman has been appointed health services administrator at The Admiral at the Lake, a continuing care retirement community reopening in Chicago in July. The original Admiral was completely torn down in 2007 and has been rebuilt.

Susie Lees has been named executive vice president and general counsel at Northbrook-based Allstate Corp. Also after 30 years in the private sector, Michele Coleman Mayes, executive vice president and general counsel at Allstate, is retiring from her corporate career and will serve nonprofits.
Scott Huckins will be the new vice president and corporate treasurer at Sears Holdings, based in Hoffman Estates. Huckins comes from RSC Holdings, where he served as vice president and treasurer. ... Greg Toritto has become the group publisher of Firehouse Magazine and Firehouse.com at Arlington Heights-based Cygnus Business Media.
