Police: Elgin man sold, possessed drugs 4 times in 2019
A 25-year-old Elgin man faces prison after his recent arrest on charges he sold cocaine and other drugs several times in 2019, according to court records.
Jeffrey D. Broger, of the 700 block of Highland Avenue, was arrested last weekend on charges of manufacture/delivery of 15 to 100 grams of cocaine on Aug. 21, 2019, a felony that carries a prison term of six to 30 years with no chance of probation, according to Kane County court records.
Broger also was charged with: manufacture/delivery of five to 15 grams of Ecstasy on July 16, 2019; possession with intent to deliver Ecstasy on June 28, 2019; and possession of a controlled substance on June 13, 2019, court records show.
The Daily Herald filed a Freedom of Information Act request with Elgin police on Monday seeking more information about the case. The city has five business days to respond.
Broger is held at the Kane County jail on $500,000 bail, meaning he must post $50,000 to be released while case is pending.
He is next due in court July 29.
Broger also faces possible prison time of up to five years for violating his probation from July 2014 felony burglary arrest in Carpentersville.
In that case, he pleaded guilty to felony burglary in September 2017 and was sentenced to 60 days in jail and issued 24 months of probation, which ended Aug. 31, 2019. Prosecutors say he violated his probation with an arrest in August 2019 for driving while license suspended and no insurance, court records show.
Broger also has a pending domestic battery case from May 2020 in which he is accused of slapping a woman he knew in the face, causing her nose to bleed, according to court records.
