HBO to debut Lombardi documentary
HBO Sports looks at the life of Vince Lombardi, the infamously driven Green Bay football coach who coined the phrase, “Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing,” with the new documentary “Lombardi” debuting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, on the premium-cable channel. Biographer David Maraniss contributes to the NFL Films coproduction, with Liev Schreiber narrating.
Mac back on ‘SNL'
Comic actor Paul Rudd returns to play host to NBC's “Saturday Night Live” for the second time at 10:30 on WMAQ Channel 5, but with the Beatles retaking over the world with their new iTunes deal the big news is that Paul McCartney will be back as the musical guest for his third appearance on the show. Look for him to plug songs from his recent reissue of “Band on the Run.”
TBS goes commercial
TBS presents its seventh annual look at the worldwide “Funniest Commercials of the Year” at 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16. This year, however, there's a slight change in format, as the host is not a comedian, like Kevin Nealon, but former NFL player and current Old Spice pitchman Isaiah Mustafa.
‘Matrix' marathon
Together again, for the first time, all three films in “The Matrix” series run in sequence starting with the original at 7 p.m. today on TNT. “Reloaded” follows at 9:30 and “Revolutions” at 12:15 a.m., which means that viewers ought to give out and fall asleep right about when the series does.
