Randall Road construction a summer-long project

Fox Valley and Tri-Cities motorists can expect delays through the end of summer if traveling via Randall Road. A little of the congestion, however, will be cleared up near the end of June when the stoplight improvement project at Randall Road and Fabyan Parkway in Geneva is expected to be completed.

Steve Coffinbarger, assistant director of transportation for the Kane County Department of Transportation, said updating the traffic signal equipment at the intersection was the next step in the project after the department made it a six-lane cross section.

The remainder of construction on a stretch of Randall in Elgin between Big Timber Road to the north and Royal Boulevard is resurfacing projects, Coffinbarger said.

“We anticipate the construction is going to be finished this construction season,” he said. “Right now we’re in the process of gearing up to lay a surface layer of asphalt.”

In addition to Randall Road, Kirk Road between Route 38 and Cherry Lane will be undergoing both resurfacing and a traffic signal update, on a similar time frame to the Randall Road project.

Several bridge projects are on Kane’s docket, including digging a tunnel underneath Randall Road at South Street in Geneva. Coffinbarger said this project will extend the bike path under the tunnel, where previously was a dead end, and eventually connect it with a sidewalk northward to Keslinger Road.
