Aurora man charged in Naperville robbery
A 23-year-old Aurora man has been charged in connection with the Tuesday night robbery of a Naperville doughnut shop, authorities said Wednesday.
Timothy Dear is facing one count of felony aggravated robbery. Dear was being held Wednesday at the DuPage County jail on $150,000 bail, meaning he would have to post $15,000 to be released.
Dear, of the 3800 block of Gabrielle Lane, is accused of robbing the Dunkin’ Donuts at 602 S. Route 59. Assistant DuPage County State’s Attorney Nick Catizone said Dear entered the doughnut shop about 8 p.m. Tuesday, displayed a gun and demanded cash before fleeing with a little more than $200, including several rolls of coins.
“He was masked in a stocking and dressed in black,” Catizone said during Dear’s Wednesday bond court appearance.
After the robber fled east from the store, an employee called 911 and provided a description to authorities. Naperville police arrested Dear a short time later outside another unspecified business on the 2700 block of Aurora Avenue.
Catizone said Dear was holding a black shirt, and police found a BB gun in his possession. “He had a large wad of cash on him and the rolls of coins,” Catizone said.
Dear later made incriminating statements during a police interview, according to Catizone. “He indicated he needed the money for his family,” Catizone said.
Catizone said Dear’s prior criminal history includes arrests for marijuana possession and misdemeanor public indecency.
In addition to setting bail at $150,000, Judge Michael Wolfe barred Dear from entering Dunkin’ Donuts and ordered him to turn over any weapons to police.
