Tony Award-winning 'Wicked' to make its return to Chicago
"Wicked" left Chicago a year ago after 1,500 performances, making it the longest-running Broadway musical in Chicago history.
Now, it's coming back.
The Tony Award-winning musical, inspired by Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel about the young witches of Oz BD (before Dorothy), returns for a limited run beginning Dec. 1. But it won't return to the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre, the venue it called home for 3½ years. That space may well be occupied by the much-anticipated "Billy Elliot, the Musical," which begins previews there March 18.
Instead, the Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical will run through Jan. 23, 2011, at the slightly larger Cadillac Palace Theatre.
Broadway in Chicago subscribers and groups can purchase "Wicked" tickets beginning next month. Individual tickets will be available at a later date. See broadwayinchicago.com for more information.
