Your news: S. Barrington Scouts help at Home of the Sparrow
The South Barrington Garden Club, along with seven Boy Scouts from Barrington area Troop 10 and their parents, spent a weekend morning digging and planting at one of the Home of the Sparrow Shelters.
The project was an educational experience for the Scouts as they worked on their merit badges and Citizenship in the Community service hours. The Scouts who participated were: Peter Scott Samoska, Jonathan Durden, Robert Cussen, David Barabasz, Ehren Hager and Alex and Austin Keating. The parents were Kathy Samoska, Joe and Carole Barabasz and Sherry Hager. Thanks to all of them for their hard work with a smile. South Barrington Garden Club Members who participated included Susan Slapke, Judy Decker, Anita Bierbaum, Nancy Ebner, Grace Pyter and Dorie Lederer.
The South Barrington Garden Club members viewed the site some time ago and came up with a plan to beautify and clear areas that were in desperate need of plantings. All of the plants were donated by the garden club members. This project is Phase I for this particular shelter and Phase II is already being planned for the spring. It was a project they all feel very proud to be a part of.
Meetings for the South Barrington Garden Club are held or originate at the South Barrington Park District, 3 Tennis Club Lane, at 9 a.m. on the first Thursday morning of the month all year round. For information on membership or participation in upcoming events, call Anita, at (847) 277-7151.
