Group plans on Carpentersville car show as yearly event
The car show that Meadowdale International Raceway Preservation Association held on Sept. 19 was a huge success. Thanks to the vision of the Kane County Forest Preserve District, more than 200 cars were on display and thousands of track fans crowded the main straight during the run of the show.
The event theme was the 50th anniversary reunion celebration of the Meister Brauser Racing Team, the dominant competitor at the track during the 1950s and '60s. Guests included Harry Heuer, leader of the team; Don Devine, team driver; and many other members and fans of the historic team. On display was the Meister Brauser Chaparral built by Troutman and Barnes.
Scarab continuation car currently in production at Scarab Motorsports was on display along with an original factory race team Cobra actually raced at Meadowdale in 1961, racers, sports cars, hot rods, customs, motorcycles and even a go-kart from that era.
The groups plans to make the car show an annual event to promote and preserve the history of Meadowdale International Raceways located in Raceway Woods. The first banquet open to MIRPA members and their guests will be held Saturday, Jan. 30. A program on Meadowdale and racing will be presented. Other MIRPA activities include a cleanup day, assisting Kane County Forest Preserve with historic kiosks around the track, and the fall Meadowdale, Motorsports and Memories Car Event. Volunteers are needed in all areas.
The founding member program runs through Friday, Jan. 15. Individual membership fee is $35. To become a member, make your check payable to MIRPA and mail to 300 Jandus Road, Suite 109, Cary, IL 60013. Call (847) 421-2891.
