Blaze damages house in Hoffman Estates
A fire that started on an outside deck and spread to the rear of a house in Hoffman Estates was quickly extinguished Friday morning, fire department officials said.
Firefighters were called to a two-story single family home at 4685 Huntington Blvd. at 9:10 a.m. to find a smoldering fire in the wall and floor structure near the kitchen. It was extinguished by 9:30 a.m., according to a fire department news release.
Residents were awake at the time of the fire and were alerted by the smell of smoke. One resident was transported to the hospital, the release said.
Investigators found two smoke detectors, but neither worked.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The estimated fire damage to rear wall, floor structure and outside deck is $40,000.
