Elgin rehab program good for community
I have an idea that the person who wrote about the flaws of the rehab program in Elgin doesn't know much about what is happening in Elgin with homes that have been vacated. I mostly have been aware of the people who are going to own a home that is made sound and are so grateful. Also the neighbors are thankful as the neighborhood becomes more pleasant and valuable.
I wish she would learn about Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that supplies families with decent homes, where they pay no interest on the mortgages and have to help with the building or rehabbing. They also have to have a means of income that enables them to make their payments. Habitat for Humanity relies on people who are willing to help those in need. They spend time building or rehabbing homes. They need people who are skilled and those who assist others.
It lifts the spirits to work with others who are fulfilled by this effort and are trying to make this world a better place.
It seems as if the writer was more unhappy about their loss when they sold their home. Is she not aware that is the case for all property in Elgin and the U. S.? We are in a recession that has hit everyone. We who have a place to live are so blessed that we should be aware of those who don't have a home of their own.
