Zook says Illini aren't focusing on bowls
CHAMPAIGN -- With four wins and no ranked opponents left to play, Illinois head coach Ron Zook doesn't doubt some players are thinking about bowl games.
But Zook said Tuesday he believes his players aren't dwelling on the possibility.
Illinois (4-2, 2-2 Big Ten) faces Purdue (4-3, 2-1) on Saturday. Games at Michigan and at home against Minnesota follow.
The Illini need two more wins to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2007. That season they went to the Rose Bowl, but went 5-7 the next year.
Zook says the team's coaches stress that players should focus on improvement and the next game. And he says his team has good chemistry and steady leadership that keeps it focused.
