Provena St. Joseph Hospital is a supporter of the National Pink Heals Tour event sponsored by the Bartlett Fire Protection District.
Pink Heals is a national program to bring awareness to Women’s Health issues primarily breast cancer.
On Aug. 22, several decorated pink fire trucks were greeted by staff and patients of the Bob and Edna Meadows Regional Cancer Care Center at Provena St. Joseph Hospital after a health fair earlier at the Bartlett Fire Protection District. Several hundred families attended.
“We are proud to support the National Pink Heals tour to help raise awareness for breast cancer,” said Dr. Eugene McMahon, president and CEO. “Early detection is key to saving lives , and yearly mammograms should be on an annual to-do list. Early detection and the state-of-the-art technology utilized today can detect even the smallest lump.”
The National Pink Heals tour is part of a national tour, led by the Guardians of the Ribbon, a volunteer group of firefighters and police officers who bring love and hope to local communities around the country in the form of pink fire trucks.
Dressed in pink fire gear, and driving bright pink fire trucks, the Guardians travel across the United States on a three-month road-trip sharing their mission of support and awareness for all women who have fought a battle with cancer. Proceeds from this event will benefit local healthcare organizations.
