Explore how a CEO ticks at next Elgin chamber luncheon

Have you wondered what makes a successful CEO tick? Have does being a physician impact leadership as a hospital CEO? What are the challenges in health care today?

Find out a local CEO’s path to success and learn a few secrets by attending the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce “CEO Unplugged” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Elgin Community College Business Conference Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

The February featured CEO Unplugged speaker is Dr. Eugene J. McMahon, president and CEO of Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.

McMahon is an accomplished physician executive with more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience. A seasoned clinician, he is a board-certified pathologist, and began his pathology practice in 1994 in Milwaukee. His experience includes leading a large pathology and laboratory medicine practice and serving on several medical staffs in the Milwaukee area. Licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, McMahon is also a board certified physician and surgeon in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.

Holding extensive academic credentials, McMahon graduated cum laude from College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass., with a bachelor’s degree in economics and pre-medicine, before earning his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. Following an internship at Columbia University, New York, he completed a residency in pathology and laboratory medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center.

McMahon earned a masters of business administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

The CEO Unplugged luncheon format includes a quick fire-round of questions to the speaker ranging from risks they have taken to what keeps them up at night, and more. You will walk away with tidbits of advice you can implement in your business right away.

“We are pleased to offer this informal off-the-cuff format,” said Pat Szpekowski, Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce board member and special events committee chair. “Lunch attendees will get to hear the different sides of a successful local community business leader and adapt their strategies for their own business growth. Our hope is that this new twist will bring insight and humor to those who attend.”

The luncheon series was formulated by the chamber’s Special Events Committee.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.; luncheon at noon with questions and networking to follow. Cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for guests. Reservations can be made online at elginchamber.com or call the chamber office for information at (847) 741-5660.
