Howard Co.Ind. works to prevent tuberculosis spread
KOKOMO, Ind. — Howard County health officials are working to prevent an outbreak of tuberculosis after confirming an active case of the disease.
Health department nursing supervisor Kathy Oldaker says the infected woman is under medical care and has been quarantined at home.
The Kokomo Tribune reports anyone who visited the OP Nail & Spa Salon between Sept. 28, 2011, and Feb. 22 should get tested.
Oldaker says the department is going back three months from the onset of symptoms as it alerts those who might have been exposed. That period covers the major holidays, which are popular times for women to visit salons.
Anyone who tests positive will need a chest X-ray to determine if the case is active.
This is the second active TB case in Howard County since September.
