Here’s your chance to surprise someone special with roses, and donate to charity

St. Charles Kiwanis Club members invite you to bring on the warmth of spring by sending roses to special people in your daily life. The annual “Rose Day” fundraiser began March 6 and lasts for six weeks until April 10.

Orders are being taken now by Kiwanis members for bouquets of one dozen long-stemmed roses with baby’s breath packaged in a cellophane bouquet-sheath for a donation of $20.

Just in time for Administrative Professional’s day, rose pickup day is April 24, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Baker Community Center, 101 S. Second St.

If you would like to donate, but don’t really need the roses, think about ordering for a neighbor who has helped you or designating your dozen to go to a local nursing home or rehab center.

Co-chaired by Diana Brown and Anisa Ali, the goal is to get 1,300 dozen rose orders. Last year, the club raised donations for 1,325 dozen.

By contributing to this fundraiser and others, St. Charles Kiwanis Club has been able to award monetary grants to over 30 organizations dealing with children in the Tri-Cities area. Last year, the St. Charles club gave more than $60,000 and this year expect to give more than $70,000.

Agencies served include CASA Kane County, Fox Valley Hospice, Fox Valley Special Recreation Association, Glenwood School, Lazarus House, LivingWell Cancer Resources Center, Riverwoods Christian Center, The Salvation Army, Three Fires Council Boy Scouts of America, TriCity Family Services, and many others.

Rose bouquet orders can be placed through any St. Charles Kiwanis Club, Golden K, or Key Club members or by calling (630) 584-1055.

Twelve hundred dozen rose bouquets have been pre-ordered and are available in a wide variety of colors. All orders must be received by April 10 for fulfillment. All donations should be made payable to St. Charles Kiwanis Foundation and must be submitted with orders.

Kiwanis is an organization of service — and community-minded individuals who support children and young adults around the world. One of the top priorities for the St. Charles Kiwanis Club is, “Young Children: Priority One.” This initiative places continuing focus on serving the needs of children in the Fox Valley, one community at a time.

The club currently has over 80 members of the St. Charles community working on this commitment to children. Club meetings are held at noon every Tuesday at the PNC Bank, 2600 E. Main St. in St. Charles. If you are interested in joining Kiwanis, call Lori Linkimer at (630) 841-3278 for membership information.
